Langstroth Insulation Box

9 reviews

Description

Add an extra layer of insulation to help keep hive temperature and moisture consistent inside your Langstroth hive.

Borrowed from the Warre's quilt box design, this insulation box holds wood shavings that help wick moisture, and retain heat or cool depending on the season. Similar to a "Vivaldi Board" made by others, but includes the insulative western red cedar shavings.

Fully assembled.

Includes

  • Clear douglas fir insulation frame
  • Stainless steel mesh
  • 2 bags of cedar quilt material

    Essential item

Great item for insulation and moisture control. My only two complaints: should include canvas or burlap liner to keep quilt material contained above the screen, and the wooden spacer bars below the screened layer are a welcomed addition, but need to be attached more solidly. I reinforced with drilled and countersunk screws.

    Langstroth Insulation Box

Exactly what I’ve been looking for. Here in the Great Pacific Northwest you need to absorb some of the moisture from inside the hive during the fall and winter months. The Langstroth Insulation Box is a quality product and Love the free shipping.

Langstroth Insulation boxes nicely made, high quality

Well made, fit perfectly, and the included cedar shavings were plentiful. This is my first time using insulation boxes with absorbent material, so I am looking forward to seeing how they perform. I purchased two 10-frame, and one 8-frame box. Hoping my bees survive this crazy winter!
