Slatted racks are an ultra-handy tool many beekeepers swear by. These racks provide air space below the brood chamber and the added space allows the colony to stay warmer in winter and cooler in summer. It also provides congregation space which can reduce swarming, and allow the queen to lay eggs lower in the hive, maximizing space and efficiency.
* BuzzBox users, to avoid attaching BuzzBox to your boxes directly, simply place it in a slatted rack and attach with zip ties -- no drilling required. The slatted racks have been notched to allow the BuzzBox solar power cable to easily reach the exterior of the hive. Voilà!
